Dr. Rand Paul Forces Vote on Fiscally Responsible Solution to Shutdowns

Paul, Peters, & Rubio Bipartisan Bill to Create One Deadline to Apply for FEMA Disaster Assistance Programs for Individuals Advances in the Senate
WASHINGTON, DC – Bipartisan legislation authored by U.S. Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Gary Peters (D-MI), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) to create one application deadline for two Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) programs that individuals use for federal disaster assistance has advanced in the Senate. FEMA’s Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) and Individuals and Household Program (IHP) currently have different deadlines, which can cause confusion for disaster survivors who may have trouble tracking when they need to apply for each program. The senators’ bipartisan legislation would ensure these programs have the same deadline to reduce the burden on people who need them to rebuild their lives after disasters. The bill was approved by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee where Paul serves as Ranking Member and Peters serves as Chair. It now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
Senators Continue Efforts to Return War Powers to Congress, Introduce the End Endless Wars Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Mike Braun (R-IN) introduced the End Endless Wars Act, which would repeal the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) 180 days after enactment. This legislation would restore the constitutional role of the people’s representatives in Congress to debate and decide whether, where, and how to authorize the use of military force.
Dr. Paul Stresses Need to Improve Management of Unused Government Real Estate Property
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, delivered opening remarks during a hearing titled “FASTA Implementation and Optimizing the Efficient Use of Federal Property.” During the hearing, Dr. Paul highlighted the current inefficiencies of the Public Building Reform Board (PBRB), created under the Federal Assets Sale Transfer Act (FASTA) with the objective of optimizing the management of federal civilian real estate and ensuring efficient utilization of government resources. Their ability to manage and sell off unnecessary real estate inventory has been stymied by bureaucracy and agency resistance, resulting in the Board unable to meet its sale goals year after year. The friction between the agencies has cost the taxpayers billions of dollars, and without effective reform, taxpayer dollars will continue to be wasted on maintaining these unused real estate assets.
