Sen. Paul Continues to Push for the Elimination of Foreign Aid to Egypt

Feb 17, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today the U.S. Senate voted to limit debate on the 2013 highway bill. In its current form, this bill does not include Sen. Rand Paul's amendment to end U.S. aid to Egypt, unless detained Americans are released. Since Senate Democrats are blocking his ability to have a vote on this amendment, Sen. Paul has subsequently voted against the highway bill and issued the following statement:

"Today, once again, the Senate Democrats attempted to railroad debate on the highway bill. Democrat Senate leadership should explain to Americans why protecting foreign aid to Egypt is more important than the welfare of American lives being detained in there."

A vote to invoke cloture on the legislation failed, with a vote of 54-42.
