WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator and physician Rand Paul learned that the U.S. House’s Obamacare repeal-and-replace draft legislation is being hidden away in a “secure location” and was denied in the U.S. Capitol building from making a copy of the legislation for the American people and all of their representatives to read.

“I promised Kentuckians I would fight to ensure Congress has enough time to read legislation before voting, and that I would not back down from repealing and replacing Obamacare with a plan that lowers prices, expands choices, and strengthens health care,” said Dr. Paul

“It is already bad enough that it appears House leadership wants us to settle for ‘Obamacare Lite,’ but now we can’t even expect full transparency during the process.

“I will not settle,” Dr. Paul continued, “and I will not stand idly by while the American people are kept in the dark. I will continue to speak out for full repeal.”

In January, Dr. Paul introduced the free-market based Obamacare Replacement Act (S. 222), which empowers Americans to: 1.) Choose inexpensive insurance free of government dictates; 2.) Save unlimited amounts in a health savings account (HSA) and have wider options for using those funds; 3.) Buy insurance across state lines; and 4.) Join together in voluntary associations to gain the leverage of being part of a large insurance pool.

Dr. Paul has also previously introduced the “Read the Bills Act” to give members of Congress enough time to fully evaluate legislation before voting.
